TOBY
MULLIGAN
While the artistic element of culture may have been
lacking in his childhood, Toby’s upbringing was
undeniably rich and fascinating. After a childhood
growing up in the Cotswolds he lived variously in
India, Morocco, Mexico, France and the UK. As a
boy he was allowed total freedom to explore and
develop his own imaginative world and formed an
intense bond with nature and became absorbed in
carving dancing figures out of scraps of wood.
His significant gift for art earned him a place to
study at the world renowned Slade School of Fine
Art, but he found the restraints that would be
imposed on his artwork too stifling and rejected
the offer to pursue his own course. Since then
his career as an artist has gone from strength to
strength; he was commissioned to paint tennis
star Roger Federer in 2014 for the player’s annual
charity gala in Geneva, and his work is in private
collections around the world, including that in Mick
Jagger’s chateau in France. Toby has also made a
number of films painting portraits for Winsor and
Newton, Liquitex and Cass Art and has been filmed
painting for Sky Arts TV.
